Comparison: State vs. Federal
• Rules. Oklahoma adopts by reference the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements Rule, effective in Oklahoma as of September 15, 2018, with additional state rules for health and environmental protection standards, quarterly reports, disposal plans, manifest copies, very small quantity generators (VSQGs), and fees.
• Administration and enforcement. The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality's (DEQ) Land Protection Division administers and enforces the rules for hazardous waste generators in Oklahoma.
Oklahoma follows the federal rules for generators storing hazardous waste on-site without a storage facility permit. See the state sections ACCUMULATION TIME and HAZARDOUS WASTE STORAGE for further guidance.
