· Rules. Hawaii adopts by reference the federal hazardous waste storage rules for permitted and interim status treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs). In addition, the state follows the federal requirements for generators accumulating hazardous waste on-site without a permit through its adoption by reference of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements Rule, effective in Hawaii as of September 30, 2018.
· Administration and enforcement. The Hawaii Department of Health’s (DOH) Solid and Hazardous Waste Branch administers and enforces the hazardous waste storage regulations in Hawaii.
