· Rules. South Dakota incorporates by reference the federal hazardous waste storage rules for permitted and interim status treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs). In addition, the state follows the federal requirements for generators accumulating hazardous waste on-site without a permit through its incorporation by reference of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements Rule, effective in South Dakota as of September 6, 2019.

· Administration and enforcement. The South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) Waste Management Program administers and enforces the hazardous waste storage regulations in South Dakota.
