Comparison: State vs. Federal

Rules. Montana has adopted by reference the federal requirements for tanks that store or treat hazardous waste. In addition, owners and operators of hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs) that use hazardous waste tanks must comply with additional permit application requirements, including an application fee. The state's more stringent permit standards are reviewed in the state section TSDF PERMITS. The state's additional rules for tanks are in connection with dates for complying with tank integrity assessment and secondary containment requirements.

Administration and enforcement. DEQ's Waste and Underground Tank Management Bureau administers and enforces Montana's hazardous waste tank rules.
