See national section for basic information and federal regulations.
Comparison: State vs. Federal
• Rules. Mississippi adopts by reference the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements Rule, effective in the state as of June 24, 2018, which includes standards that allow generators to treat hazardous waste on-site.
The state adopts by reference the federal hazardous waste treatment rules for both permitted and interim-status hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs).
See the national sections ACCUMULATION TIME, HAZARDOUS WASTE STORAGE, and LAND DISPOSAL RESTRICTIONS to review the requirements applicable to generators treating hazardous waste on-site.
• Administration and enforcement. The Hazardous Waste Management Program at the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) administers and enforces the hazardous waste treatment rules in Mississippi.
