Comparison: State vs. Federal

Rules. Florida has adopted by reference the federal hazardous waste surface impoundment rules, including the organic air emissions standards. In addition, owners and operators of hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs) that use surface impoundments must comply with additional permit application requirements and pay several state permit fees. The state's more stringent permit standards and fees are reviewed in the state section TSDF PERMITS.

Administration and enforcement. DEP's Bureau of Solid and Hazardous Waste administers and enforces the surface impoundment requirements in Florida.
