Comparison: State vs. Federal

Rules. Montana has adopted by reference the federal requirements for hazardous waste surface impoundments. In addition, owners and operators of hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facilities that use surface impoundments must comply with additional permit application requirements including an application fee. The state's more stringent permit standards are reviewed in the state section TSDF PERMITS.

Administration and enforcement. DEQ's Hazardous Materials Section administers and enforces the surface impoundment rules in the state.
