Rules. The federal regulations for universal wastes are in effect in Iowa.

Administration and enforcement. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Region 7 office enforces all of the universal waste rules in Iowa. In fact, the EPA administers and enforces the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act hazardous waste management requirements because the state has not had EPA authorization to implement its own hazardous waste management program since 1985 and has no plans to apply for EPA authorization in the near future.
