Virginia Loans: What you need to know

There is nothing in Virginia law that prohibits an employer from making a loan or an advance on wages to an employee. However, in order to withhold an amount from wages as repayment, the employer must have signed authorization from the employee (VA Code Sec. 40.1-29). The authorization should include a clear statement of the amount of the deduction and the reason for it.
