Drivers or attendants of motor buses may not work for more than 8 hours in a 24-hour period. They must be allowed at least 12 hours of rest after they complete work in any 24-hour period and before they begin the next 24-hour period. This requirement does not apply to drivers who are public employees; situations in which life or property is endangered; or cases of delay due to accidents, impassable roads, abnormal road conditions, or snow blockades. Any employer that violates these rules is guilty of a misdemeanor and may be charged a fine and/or may face imprisonment (MT Code Sec. 39-4-102).
Hoisting engineers may not work more than 8 hours in a 24-hour period, except in cases of sickness or other unforeseen circumstances. Any employer that violates these rules is guilty of a misdemeanor and may be charged a fine and/or may face imprisonment (MT Code Sec. 39-4-101).
Employees in mines, smelters, stamp mills, sampling works, concentrators, and all other places that extract, reduce, or refine ores, may generally work 8 hours in a day, except in cases of emergency in which life and property are in imminent danger. Any employer that violates these rules is guilty of a misdemeanor and may be charged a fine and/or may face imprisonment (MT Code Sec. 39-4-103).
