Missouri Paychecks: What you need to know

The wage payment requirements cover all corporations doing business in Missouri, including employers in manufacturing, mining, quarrying, railroads, and corporations employing laborers and mechanics (MO Rev. Stat. Sec. 290.080).

Corporations and railroads must pay their employees' wages at least twice a month, within 16 days of the close of the payroll period (MO Rev. Stat. Sec. 290.080).
Executive, administrative, and professional employees, salespersons, and others paid on commission may be paid monthly (MO Rev. Stat. Sec. 290.080).
Factories and coal mines must pay wages at least every 15 days and within 5 days of the close of the pay period (MO Rev. Stat. Sec. 290.090).
Wages may be paid by cash or check. Missouri has no regulations governing direct deposit or payroll cards as methods of payment (MO Rev. Stat. Sec. 290.500).
Direct deposit for state employees. All state employees are required to participate in the Payroll Direct Deposit Program, unless this would pose a hardship on an individual or group of individuals. A hardship would exist under the following circumstances:
• The position held by the employee is located outside the United States, or the employee is temporarily stationed outside the United States
• The existence of a state or national emergency or natural disaster that would preclude the origination or receipt of an electronic deposit
• A physical or mental disability, as documented by a healthcare professional, that would impede the employee's ability to gain access to electronically deposited funds
• Certification by the employee that religious convictions preclude the use of direct deposit
