North Carolina Equal Pay/Comparable Worth: What you need to know

North Carolina does not have a state equal pay act. However, employers engaged in interstate commerce are subject to the requirements of the federal Equal Pay Act. In addition, the North Carolina Equal Employment Practices Act prohibits discrimination based on race, religion, color, national origin, age, sex, or disability, and most discriminatory pay practices would be covered under that Act. The Act applies to private employers with 15 or more employees.
