Overview. Detailed discussion is provided below on selected, broadly applicable state employment poster and notice requirements.
Please note that additional poster and notice requirements and best practices may apply, particularly in industrial workplaces, healthcare and educational facilities, and other workplaces with unique or specific needs.
Discrimination. If the Commission for Human Rights finds that an employer has engaged in a discriminatory practice, it may require the employer to post a notice (SD Cod. Laws Sec. 20-13-42).
Safety and health. Employers are required to display informational posters in visible places promoting safety in the workplace. If smoking is prohibited in a building, signs announcing the policy must be posted (SD Cod. Laws Sec. 62-2-11).
Unemployment compensation. Employers must post notices in accessible places providing employees with information about the state's unemployment insurance law, including provision of unemployment regulations (SD Cod. Laws Sec. 61-7-1).
