South Carolina First Aid: What you need to know

The level of first-aid services maintained will depend on the hazards normally present at the worksite. Both the law and good common sense require at least a basic level of readiness. South Carolina's state health and safety code, applicable to private (private businesses and nonprofit organizations) and public (government agencies, public school systems, commissions) sector employers, has adopted the occupational safety standards set by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act) (SC Regs. 71-600).

During their hours of operation, all childcare facilities (except family daycare homes) must have on the premises at least one caregiver who is currently certified to provide basic first aid and child-infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (SC Code Sec. 63-13-110).
No individual who administers emergency care in good faith at the scene of an accident or emergency is liable for the consequences of acts or omissions they may or may not have performed in providing such emergency care; there is an exception if these acts or omissions amount to gross negligence or willful or wanton misconduct (SC Code Sec. 15-1-310).
