The level of first-aid services maintained will depend on the hazards normally present at the worksite. Both the law and good common sense require at least a basic level of readiness. Wisconsin does not have its own occupational safety and health plan for private employers (private businesses and nonprofit organizations). Therefore, in the private sector, the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act) governs workplace health and safety, including first-aid requirements.
Note: Failure to comply with this requirement is among the top 10 violations cited by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). There is additional information and a detailed discussion of workplace first-aid requirements.
