A private employer may prohibit employees or other individuals holding a concealed deadly weapons license from carrying concealed deadly weapons or ammunition in vehicles owned by the employer. The employer may not prohibit employees or other individuals holding a concealed deadly weapons license from carrying concealed deadly weapons or ammunition in vehicles owned by the employee or the individual (KY Rev. Stat. Sec. 237.110). Employers may prevent a person who is prohibited by state or federal law from possessing a firearm from having a gun or ammunition in a vehicle. Employers may also remove firearms when necessary for self-defense or defense of property.
Discrimination. An employer may not fire, discipline, demote, or otherwise punish an employee who engages in conduct in compliance with the law. An employee may seek an injunction or civil damages against an employer that violates the law.
Exceptions. The owner of a private business, daycare center, or certified licensed family childcare home or a healthcare facility may prohibit individuals holding concealed deadly weapon licenses from carrying concealed deadly weapons on the premises and may prohibit licensed employees, not authorized by the employer, from carrying concealed deadly weapons on the employer's property.
State employees. The Kentucky Financial and Administration Cabinet may prohibit state employees from carrying firearms and ammunition in vehicles when transporting persons under their supervision or jurisdiction.
