The WARN Act requires employers to notify their state dislocated worker unit when layoffs occur.
In Washington, after the dislocated worker unit receives notice of a layoff, it contacts the state's Rapid Response team. If appropriate, the Rapid Response team will meet with company officials to schedule pre-layoff workshops for the affected workers.
Employers can also learn about pre-layoff services designed to help workers shorten their transition to new employment, receive information to assist the company in maintaining worker morale and productivity during the transition, and get assistance in the coordination of services for workers.
