Missouri Advertising: What you need to know

The Missouri Human Rights Law prohibits private employers with six or more employees and all public employers from printing or circulating (or causing to be printed or circulated) any application, statement, advertisement, or publication that inquires about or expresses a preference, specification, or limitation based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, ancestry, age, or disability unless the characteristic is a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ) or the employer uses a merit system, or a system that measures earnings by production as long as the differences are not the result of an intentional discrimination and are not used to discriminate (MO Rev. Stat. Sec. 213.055).
