Kansas Training: What you need to know

Effective July 1, 2015, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) supersedes the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) and amends the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act, the Wagner-Peyser Act, and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Like its predecessor, the WIOA is a federal workforce development law that provides for state and federal employment, education, job training, and support services. The law is designed to help jobseekers access employment, education, training, and support services and to match employers with the skilled workers they need.

Employers that train workers through this system are eligible for grants, significant tax credits, and other benefits. Additional information on the federal WIOA is available.
The Department of Commerce/Office of Workforce Development administers and enforces job training programs.
The Kansas Department of Commerce oversees several programs designed to stimulate workforce development:
Kansas Industrial Training Program (KIT). The KIT program assists firms involved in preemployment and on-the-job training. It provides assistance to manufacturing, distribution, and other businesses primarily engaged in the development or production of goods or the provision of services for out-of-state sale. The business must create at least five new jobs. Preemployment training affords companies and prospective employees the opportunity to evaluate each other before making employment commitments.
