The state has adopted the federal standard for asbestos exposure in general industry (brake and clutch repair, custodial work, and the manufacture of asbestos-containing products) and workplace safety and health requirements for asbestos abatement activities (alteration, repair, demolition, and renovation (8 AAC 61.1010)). The state's requirements for asbestos abatement certification follow federal certification guidelines (8 AAC 61.600 to 61.790).
State requirements must be at least as strict as federal requirements; otherwise, the federal rules apply.
