• Rules. The state has adopted the federal workplace safety and health standard for asbestos exposure in general industry (brake and clutch repair, custodial work, and the manufacture of asbestos-containing products), and workplace safety and health requirements for asbestos abatement activities (alteration, repair, renovation, and demolition).
ADEQ has incorporated by reference the asbestos NESHAP. See the national section ASBESTOS for further guidance.
• Administration and enforcement. ADOSH administers and enforces workplace safety and health rules for asbestos in private and public sector workplaces. ADEQ’s Air Quality Division administers and enforces the asbestos NESHAP in Arizona, with the exception of Maricopa, Pima, and Pinal counties, where administration and enforcement of the NESHAP is under jurisdiction of the local air quality agency.
