· Rules. Private sector employers (businesses and nonprofit organizations) in Illinois are governed by federal hazard communication, or worker “right-to-know” requirements. Illinois has a federally approved occupational safety and health regulatory program for public sector (state and local government offices and operations) employers. The state has adopted the federal hazard communication rules by reference. See the state section HAZARD COMMUNICATION STANDARD for more information.
· Administration and enforcement. OSHA administers and enforces occupational safety and health requirements in the private sector, including hazard communication. IDOL administers and enforces the state’s hazard communication requirements in public sector workplaces.
