Colorado SDS: What you need to know

COMPARISON: STATE VS. FEDERAL

Because Colorado is not a “state plan” state (that is, it does not have a federally approved state job safety and health plan), the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) governs safety data sheet (SDS) requirements in the private sector workplace. Private sector employers must provide SDSs to employees in accordance with the requirements of the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act. Review the national analysis SDS for a comprehensive discussion of the federal rules.

Colorado has no right-to-know requirements for its public sector workplaces (government offices and operations).

OSHA administers SDS requirements for the private sector workplace.
