Minnesota Slips and Falls: What you need to know

The state has adopted by reference the federal general industry rules for slips, trips, and falls (walking and working surfaces) by reference (MR 5205.0010), and adopted the federal construction industry requirements (29 CFR 1926.501(b)(7)) for guarding and covering pits, wells, shafts, and similar spaces.

PITS, WELLS, AND SHAFTS

All wells, pits, shafts, and other similar spaces must be barricaded or covered. Upon completion of exploration and similar operations, temporary wells, pits, shafts, and other similar spaces must be backfilled.
