Comparison: State vs. Federal
Rules. Louisiana is not a “state plan” state; that is, it does not have a federally approved occupational safety and health regulatory program. Private sector (private and commercial businesses and nonprofit organizations) employers are governed by the federal OSH Act. Public sector (state government agencies) workplaces must comply with the requirements of the state’s Loss Prevention Program. See the Louisiana analysis for the OSHA topic for more information.
Administration and enforcement.Federal OSHA administers and enforces occupational safety and health requirements in private sector workplaces in Louisiana.
