Comparison: State vs. Federal
Maryland has adopted by reference the federal inspection standard for both the private and public sectors. State employers are subject to requirements that are identical to the federal rules.
The Occupational Safety and Health Act covers every Maryland employer in a business, trade, commercial, or industrial activity that has one or more employees, including state and local governments.
See the national section INSPECTIONS for the federal inspection requirements.
Maryland’s state plan is administered by the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation’s Division of Labor and Industry’s Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH).
