Missouri state agencies are permitted, and in some cases required, to conduct inspections under state hazardous materials motor carriers regulations.

Federal workplace safety and health inspection requirements apply to private sector workplaces in Missouri. There are no workplace safety and health regulations for public sector workplaces (state and municipal employers).

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) enforces the hazardous materials regulations as they apply to motor carriers.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) enforces the health and safety standards at all private sector workplaces in Missouri. The state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations administers the Missouri Workers’ Safety Program, which includes on-site inspection and consultations. There is currently no enforcement of safety and health regulations for public sector workplaces (state and municipal employers).
