Comparison: State vs. Federal
In Missouri, the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act and regulations govern private sector employers. Missouri is not a “state plan” state; that is, it does not have a federally approved occupational safety and health regulatory program. There are no workplace safety and health regulations for public sector workplaces (state and municipal employers).
See the national RECORDKEEPING analysis for more information on federal recordkeeping requirements.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) administers and enforces job safety and health rules for private sector workplaces in Missouri. There is currently no enforcement of safety and health regulations for public sector workplaces (state and municipal employers).
