Virginia has adopted by reference the federal workplace safety and health training requirements, except that Virginia has adopted training rules for operating covered vehicles (i.e., vehicles with obstructed view to the rear) that are stricter than federal rules. Material handling – Covered vehicles6 Virginia Administrative Code 25-97-50 Covered vehicle drivers, observers, and ground guides must be trained in the responsibilities and procedures for safely operating or directing a covered vehicle that is backing up. Provided to any employee who violates the regulation, is involved in an accident or near-miss accident; or the driver or designated observer/ground guide who is not operating or acting safely.
