· Administration and enforcement. The Registry of Motor Vehicles and the State Police enforce the hazardous materials transportation regulations in Massachusetts. DFS enforces the state rules for the transportation of flammable and combustible liquids. Local fire departments may also place restrictions on the transportation of flammable and combustible liquids in their jurisdictions.
These requirements apply to the transportation of combustible liquids by Massachusetts registered motor vehicles, in cargo tanks, portable tanks, and transport tanks in transport vehicles, and to the transportation of flammable liquids in nonbulk packagings with a capacity of 7 gallons (gal) or less.
